i have on going joint problems and pain my gp wont refer me to specialist for treatment what can i do?
i have had ongoing joint pain starting in my ankle which has spread to my knee and hip and now my wrist for the last 12 months ive visited several gps who wont refer me for any investigations just keep giving painkillers, i have had one set of bloods done and one plain xray on my ankle but the pain is getting worse and spreading what can i do?
Try a different approach and take your partner or a trusted friend with you to another appointment with one of the Dr's in your surgery.
Quietly and very firmly state that your symptoms despite painkillers are not resolving and that you feel that your quality of life is now beginning to suffer as you are unable to undertake daily tasks easily due to the joint pain etc etc. But whatever you do don whinge and whine, just state it all very firmly with a third person in the room.
Then remind them that the one blood test was inconclusive and therefore say that you feel it is time for you and the Dr to look elsewhere for a cause so the correct treatment can be given.
Suggest perhaps that an appointment with rheumatologist may be a good place to start. (Probably is, anyway).
Be firm and polite and stand your ground on the subject.
